马大帅（赵本山 饰）是土生土长的马家堡村民，无奈因自作主张把女儿马小翠（孟真 饰）许配给村长儿子，无奈遭遇女儿逃婚，只得进城找女儿。马小翠投奔的是在娱乐城当保镖的自家舅舅范德彪（范伟 饰），而马大帅进程后却遭遇一系列倒霉事，丢了钱包地址，只得流落街头当街卖艺，又被抓到拘留所。范德彪得知后前来解救马大帅出来，带他会娱乐城，见到已经在歌舞厅打工的马小翠，但马小翠执意不肯回去，马大帅只好留下打工替小翠还彩礼钱，一系列啼笑皆非的故事随着马大帅进城而展开……
