故事发生在唐朝贞元年间。老夫人（王馥荔 饰）携女儿崔莺莺（陈丽峰 饰）、春暖丫环红娘（刘欣 饰）等人前去普救寺，春暖为故去的崔相国做道场，不料途中马车受到惊扰，恰被洛阳书生张生（苏有朋 饰）策马相救，避免了一场悲剧的发生，莺莺则对气宇轩昂的张生一见钟情。聪慧的红娘看在眼中，有心做月老牵线，而张生也是春心萌动，差方丈前去提亲，但老夫人并未答应。驻扎本城的将军孙彪（李建义 饰）唾涎莺莺美色，带兵前去抢亲，红娘挺身而出，以凛厉言辞劝退孙彪，为张生搬救兵赢得了宝贵时间，不料此时老夫人反目，只允许张生与莺莺以兄妹相称。红娘看在眼里急在心中，她私自安排两人会面，却被老夫人发觉。进京赶考的日子到了，张生金榜题名而归，他能跟莺莺有情人终成眷属吗……
